Control system upgrade earns client six-figure rebate!

Storm Technologies partnered with P1 Group, Inc to upgrade the engine room controls for Hunt Midwest's ammonia refrigeration system to give better control and reduce energy consumption. This system is used to cool freezers and coolers located in SubTropolis, a 55,000,000-square-foot, 1,100-acre artificial cave in the bluffs above the Missouri River

We installed a primary PLC control panel in the engine room and a remote panel underground near the freezer. In addition to an upgraded HMI and more reliable controls we were able to design automated shutdown and startup processes with scheduling capabilities to meet our customer’s energy management requirements.

This resulted in significant rebates and savings for our customer. Under the Custom Business Energy Efficiency Program, Hunt Midwest was awarded $100,000 for 605,000 kWh of savings, and under the Block Bid Program, they were awarded an additional $20,688 for 923,282 kWh.
